Devastated and heartbroken 😔 about this news.
Met little Jago as a baby when picking Burdie and it was so lovely to have a littermate on here and follow our babies journies together on this wonderfull forum.. This news is terrible and Jago was taken from you far to young, but you would of done the right thing for him, I know...

Sending masses of love, hugs and peace

Mourning with you here.. itís so tough, canít imagine the pain and heartbreak your going through right now.

Take care

Lisa xxxx

For Jago,
For CJ, James, Spencer, Ben, Claire, Molly and Ruby and CJ's Mum

Image

If all my tears would wash away your pain,
if holding hands would make you smile again
I'd drown the world in tears and reach across
with warm embracing arms to ease your loss.

Dear CJ and James, I am very sorry to hear the sad news of your loss of your lovely Jago.
I met him a few times at the Goonhavern beardie weekend events.
I always thought what a great Beardie boy he was.
My heart goes out to you both and my feelings and thoughts are with you at this sad time.
God bless you....Run free Jago....Run free xxx

Thank you everyone for your unfailing love and support, and to Joy for her wonderful poem - if I wasn't already in tears, I would certainly have been when I read it, Joy. Thank you, my friend.

I'm sorry my announcement was so terse yesterday, but I am sure you will all understand how raw I was feeling. However, after so many messages both on the forum, on FB and on my phone wondering what was happening, I felt the least I could do was let you know.

We visited on Saturday evening and were hugely encouraged by his responsiveness, he even tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to get up when we arrived. He repeatedly raised a hind leg asking for a tummy tickle, ate a couple of tiny cubes of cheese, and we spent half an hour talking to him, stroking him and, of course, giving him the requested tummy tickle. We came away with a glimmer of hope in our hearts.

We obviously knew that Jago's injuries were severe and survival was by no means certain but that, if he did pull through, there would be a very long road ahead, also involving amputation of his right foreleg, and would take a minimum of 6 - 9 months, maybe a lot longer, with no guarantees of outcome. We had, therefore, been questioning ourselves about whether we would be asking too much of our brave but poorly boy. So we had raised the question of euthanasia with Leanne over the course of the weekend and her opinion was that it was certainly worth giving him a few days to see how things were going before making that decision, which we agreed with - obviously we didn't want to lose our beautiful boy, but we were determined to do what was right for him, not for us.

As you know, the surgery scheduled for Monday was brought forward because the team felt that infection had set in. He went into theatre on Sunday afternoon and, like you, we waited and waited and waited. The phone call finally came at about 5.30pm and Leanne informed us that infection due to gross road contamination of the wounds had indeed set in, despite the fact that he had been on IV antibiotics since his admission. However, even worse than that, came the news that, upon further investigations under the GA, she believed that his injuries were too "catastrophic" to expect a meaningful recovery. She had telephoned us before bringing him round to ask us whether we wanted to persist in treatment, or let him go peacefully. Frankly, there was no choice, and after a very emotional conversation, we allowed him to drift into his final peaceful sleep at 5.50pm. It was the right decision, but it has broken our hearts.

With heavy hearts we went to see him an hour later. Bless them, they had redressed his wounds with much more discreet, unobtrusive black bandaging - albeit with a thread of silver bling running through, as Leanne said that she could tell he was a "showy dog". They had washed him, and brushed him and he looked so beautiful and peaceful and we were given time and privacy to say our goodbyes..

This morning we arranged a private cremation near Penzance, taking him to all his favourite places en route one more time, and he is now home with us again where he belongs.

We have had over 350 messages of support, and they have sustained us during these darkest of days. Jago has left such a huge whole in our lives - because of his severe separation anxiety, for 10 years we had arranged our lives around his needs. He provided the structure of our days, we collated our diaries so that one or the other of us was with him every minute of every day. I'm not sure what we are going to do now, how we are going to fill our days, without our beardie by our side.

We all know the grief of losing a beloved beardie, but somehow it seems so much worse when a fit, healthy, happy dog has been snatched away in his prime by a terrible, tragic accident. We will never stop blaming ourselves, we should have kept him safe, We thought we had, but obviously not safe enough. Please keep your beardies close, stupid, unexpected things can shatter our lives.

Our hearts are broken, and I didn't know that there were this many tears in the world.

Thank you again. We love you all.

xxxx CJ. Please please remember that accidents happen - we cant protect against them...they just happen and we are NOT to blame, as indeed you were NOT to blame.

We are all hugging each other, and you, and Jago is uppermost in our thoughts. Please be kind to yourself, my friend. xxx

Thank you dear friend for taking time to write at such a time. Somehow, we ALL felt he was ours too. A beautiful soul. Please, please donít blame yourself even though the what ifs and if only are part of working through grief. I think the driver needs to think about his conscience but enough of that as it wonít help.
He had the best of love and life and went to sleep in the end after love, cheese and tummy tickles. Be kind to yourselves as you heal and find the way forward. XXX

Love to you and James - you just cannot blame yourselves - you have loved him and given him the most wonderful life during the last ten years and he knew how much he was adored by you all and he returned that love .
