And there are 2 in May Very Happy we also have 1 at the end of May.
Although some work places don't recognise a Bank Holiday now (mine) the days get added on to your holiday quota.

Back in 1800 and something, a law was passed to allow Banks to close to the public and financial traders in order to sort out their accounts. These "Bank Holidays" also became Public holidays .. so all the shops shut and every one had the day off. We still have the Bank Holidays, but things are a bit different now ... Many people now have to work on Bank Holidays ... Most big stores are open and, as well as withdrawing all services to the Public and Financial Traders on Bank Holidays, most Banks now provide a pitifully reduced service throughout the year. Wink

Way way back peeps would bury their valuables in the bank of earth by their dwelling. That is why they are called banks.

Sometimes they forgot where they buried it or died which is why detectorists come across hoards Very Happy

That is exactly what I heard on the radio yesterday, someone was comparing the number of official holidays in various countries of Europe, and I'm afraid that yes, the UK is the country with the smallest number, Spain having the largest number of holidays. We in France range about average.
