Baillie has been a little snuggle bug for the last 5 days. I have been poorly in bed with a virus, not wanted to eat and feeling really crap and very sorry for myself. Baillie has not left my side and has been either on the bed by my side or at the side of the bed. He only ever left me to go on his walks. Today was my first day of feeling human so I decided to have a soak in the bath and lo and behold I was being carefully monitored by Dr Baillie who had his head on the side of the bath. It was very comforting to have him there, knowing he wasn't very far away. I am even more certain that dogs do have empathy. Love my boy so much 💕💓💕

I have had my first meal on several days and feel a lot better and where is Baillie, on the sofa snuggling with his Dad. He must know I am feeling better x

Glad you're feeling a bit better Sheli, and sorry you haven't been well. Sad

But you had a good Doctor, Bentley was mine when I was at home and having falls etc. He was always watching me and by my side. He was wonderful, and I miss him so much.
Sad

Awww Baillie, you are a lovely dog!

As for dogs having empathy, I'm sure they have more than a few human beings I know! Twisted Evil

Hope you continue to get better Sheli. Well done Baillie for looking after your mummy Very Happy

I am a firm believer that our dogs sense when we are ill; 30+ years ago I brought my late husband home after 6 weeks in hospital and was very worried that Magic (my parents Beardie) and Simon (my Beardie) would go berserk when they saw Al, but they didn't, they let him walk up the garden path and sit in a chair in the sitting room, then both rested their muzzles gently in his lap. They were so gentle with him, though normally they'd have expected a rough and tumble game - they adored him so much.

I'm not surprised at all by your story, Julie. In fact, my experience with dogs is short compared to lots of FBC'ers but lots of cats have shared my life for the last 50 years or so, and I've known horses for about 25 years. I could tell you dozens of stories in which cats or horses have shown how sensitive and empathic they are... The most recent one is about one of my best friends who sadly had to have a very serious breast operation last month. Her cat, who used to knead her stomach very energetically - as cats usually do! - with her front paws, has sat very gently on her tunny, purring, since my friend came back from hospital - no more kneading which would certainly have hurt her!
