Hello All,

Well its been a loooong time since i posted on here. Ive been messaging a few of the Beardie people and id kind of forgotten i could ask on here!

could i have your thoughts and ideas please..

I am thinking of setting up a business making and selling homemade dog treats.. from your veggie ones, fresh breath, ones for coats and skin and even maybe venturing into the vegan treats too..

Is there a market for this? whats your ideas and feedback?

Thank you
Hannah
x

Oh my Hannah, lovely to hear from you again after all this time. Hope you are all ok.

I have trouble finding proper dog treats for Baillie as he has food allergies so I think there could be a market but how big I have no idea. We have a lady who goes to the market once a month and I get Baillie Cheesie Paws from there and I know she does do 'specials'.

Good luck with your venture

Sheli & Baillie. Hugs to Charlie and Monty x

Hi Hannah long time no talk Laughing While I think handmade treats ect is good the only thing I have found with them is they just don't keep long enough, obviously as they don't have the dreaded preservatives we all want to avoid. Therefore if you are buying them and postage is involved that would and does put me off. If you intend your market to be stalls at events ect. then that wouldn't apply but would also tend to be seasonal. So not sure. Confused

Glad you posted on here Hannah - i am sure you will get good feedback.

Like others our two can only take grain free and Mackenzie cannot take chicken or chicken fat and Tali suffers with fats in general. We are not treat givers in general but when they do have them they are the grain free ones. We do on rare occasions make our own with tuna and potato flour. When training they do exceptionally well with the wheat free frankfurters Smile Ken will go through all his repertoire of tricks in order to get a bit.

Now while you are here perhaps you could post a picture of the gorgeous Monty.

Have you looked into this much? I do not want to put too much of a damper on your enthusiasm but I should imagine there would be lots of legislation from the premises where you make the product to the actual food used. Also what sort of scale are you thinking for number of employees? Unless you have the experience yourself, you would have to employ a nutritionist for one thing. Certain foods, herbs etc. could be lethal if eaten by dogs or in certain quantities. Advertising certain treats as “good for the skin, teeth” etc. need to be backed up with proof, not just something someone has written on the Internet say.

It sounds a good idea, but I am afraid even the commercial companies get it wrong at times, but they usually have the power/money to solve the problem……or make it go away.
