Although Foxie has always been a rustic dog Rolling Eyes who preferred sleeping directly on the floor tiles at night, now that she is getting older (she will be 10 in a few days' time) and her back is in poor condition (bone arthritis and several osteophytes Crying or Very sad ), she seems to prefer sleeping on the small rug which I have in front of the fireplace - I find her lying there most mornings when I get up). So I have decided to buy what is called a memory foam (or orthopaedic) mattress for her, as a 10th birthday present! I've ordered one from the French Zooplus online shop, and I see that it is also available on the English one. This is the one I've ordered:

Has any of you experienced that sort of thing for their dogs?

Hi Nina. Great idea for Foxie, looks so comfy. If I had one for Jethro I think I would have to make a cotton cover for it as he gets quite hot. I'm going to bear that bed in mind for his future though.

Yes Mary, I think the "wooly" cover will be nice and warm for autumn and winter, but I was planning to put a large beach towel over it for now, even if my old stone house keeps quite cool in hot weather.

Yes I must say having a memory foam topper on my bed it does get very hot. But Foxie may appreciate that if she has back trouble. Triskel who, like Foxie, always prefered the floor or preferably outside on the paving slabs Laughing Does now use her bed quite a lot, she's 12 now.
