Yesterday was sunny and no wind, a brief respite between the rainy/windy days we've had for the last few days. So I grabbed a picnic, Foxie jumped into the car, and up we went to the Ardeche mountains. The autumn colours had already disappeared from the trees on the high moors up there, due to the wind, but the slopes leading up to them were still beautiful. I took a few photos.

All the pointy mountain tops you can see in the first and 2nd pics are the old Ardeche volcanoes (they've been inactive for several centuries now, don't worry! ). And the squarish one in the middle is Mt Mezenc, the highest mountain in Ardeche (1,753 m or 5,751ft 4in). |

I guess you studied Geology at University Nina because you are using some very scientific words to describe those mountains .. what do the terms "Pointy" and "Squarish" mean in laymen's terms ?

Beautiful Nina. (Unlike the uninformed Mark, I do understand pointy and squarish) |

Such a lovely area Nina, the photos are great. The Autumn colours are particularly good this year after the hot sun earlier. We had gales and rain yesterday |

They need a few days of goodly snow to dampen it all down...remember the hotel from the film The Shining? It is called The Stanley at Estes Park...and it is pretty close to some of the fires... |

Well, you wouldn't get me watching it, ears plugged or not, but you would find me gazing at that beautiful countryside. One of the things I love about watching the cycling tour is the fantastic scenery, Ii makes me just want to ride up there myself - in my dreams now.
And lovely to see the beautiful young lady posing on the rocks
