Ok all you seasoned beardie owners, what do you do about your fluffy friend's beards...I notice that Tosz's beard is constantly wet/soaking depending on his last activity and I am concerned that he may become sore from having a permanently damp chin...also as he dips it in food, water, anything at all it doesn't smell that good. Like you I love him pongs and all but wonder if there is something I could be doing to keep him fresher? He lets me wash his face quite happily and I do dry him if he is dripping ... What do you do?

Same as Pauline, just a cloth. I also wipe after each meal.

Funnily Nells beard is never dirty or smelly unless she's rolled in something but Rufus's gets dirty and smelly and he doesn't roll.

I also have Spa Lavish Pets facial scrub for him, do this once a month or so. Otherwise just brushing.

Duchess have a micro fibre material beard towel. I use it to soak up her beard after drinking and also after meals.

There is a kind of dry powder which works like a dry shampoo and sometimes I dust it and brush off the excess to make it smell nice. Laughing

Read of someone who trained their OES to stand on the edge of the bath every day to have his face washed, someone else has recommended using baking soda in solution to neutralise the sour smell. It seems to crop up on most dog related sites.

Sadie has a permanently wet smelly beard - so when I groom her I squeeze fresh lemon juice onto the brush - she hates it but it works - seems to dry up the slime and has a slight bleaching effect - it just seems to keep her beard a bit drier for a while. It was a hint given to me by someone else.

has to be fresh not the Jif Lemon stuff tho - oh and she hates it. Rolling Eyes

One wet and smelly beard here also, I must try some of these tricks. At the minute I just wipe it down a few time a day with a cloth.
