I thought I was ready to make this post, but I am finding it even harder than I expected.

Some of you already know that we had to say goodbye to Merlin on 25th February. He was 13 years and 4 months and until very recently had enjoyed good health and wasn't on any medication. He was going slightly deaf, beginning to loose his sight and slowing down a bit, but we weren't prepared for the very sudden decline in his health. After sitting up at night with him all through the half term holiday to try to comfort him as he struggled to get comfortable, we had to make the only decision we could for his sake, and that was to have him put to sleep.

We brought him home from the vet so we could say a proper goodbye and, of course, for Wizard to see him at peace and know that his old buddy had passed away. We then took him to Dignity pet crematorium in Hampshire the next day and it was the best decision we could have made. It is the most wonderful place, the staff are amazing and for us it was "the only way" at the end.

He was my soul mate and my rock; he filled the house with his presence (well you found yourself climbing over him in doorways etc so it seemed like the house was full),he was bomb proof, didn't need a trial run at most things and cope with almost any situation. Holidays were usually about what Merlin would like (and Wizard too later on) because he just loved to come on holiday.

We are still in shock and I feel like I am living in a parallel universe at the moment, didn't even realise it was Crufts this week until I saw something on the TV last night. But thank goodness for Wizard, who has given me a reason to get up in the morning.

Throughout all of this awfulness SandY (she was instrumental in us finding out about him all those years ago) has been my guiding light; popping in to see Merlin when she realised things weren't good, talking me through what to expect at Dignity, looking after Wizard while we were at the crematorium, leaving me flowers and Wizz a toy and checking up on me to make sure I'm ok....and today taking me to, and making me laugh and smile in while waiting in eye casualty so I could have my eye and Harry Potter "scar" attended to following some over excitement on Wizard's part! SandY even researched plants and flowers called Merlin and came up with a beautiful Narcissus "Merlin" which will bloom around the anniversary of his death - I will fill the garden with them.

Part of me died with Merlin, it still hurts like hell (it always will) but I guess we all know that when we take on these incredible creatures this is bound to happen.

Sleep tight my very special boy; life will never be the same without you, you were so funny and my best friend. xxxxxxx

I still can't believe Merlin has gone to the Bridge. Sending a big Hug your Way Julie.
at this house there are 2 Beardies, that all Beardies are measured against.
Merlin and Bailey Boo.
Whenever Ian or I come home having met a new Beardie, the Question, what was he like, is answered, nice, but not a Merlin.
You left a big Hole in Peoples life, big Boy Sad

Run free xxx

Julie I am sitting here with tears running down my face..............Merlin was such a lovely boy and I know just how you are feeling having lost my Sam back in 2005. By the time I got home from work Mike had found Sam had passed, had phoned the vet so we could take him there that night and also arranged for him to be cremated.

The Pet Cemetarys do a great service to help bereaved owners and take good care of the pets in their care.

Your lovely boy is at the Bridge now playing with all our other much missed pets - he will be in your heart forever.

love and ((hugs)) to you as I know you must be hurting so much.

Jules, I loved him the first time I saw a pic of Merly Werly ..and just knew he was one of the very special one's , sometimes you just get a feeling ...then when we met him I knew I was right.

We've been wracking our brains what year it was that we met at the Hollowtree event ..the one where you overheard Annie say how like her boy he was and you turned round to tell her that her boy was Merlins Dad..what a happy meeting that was. I have the pic of him and Boo on my fridge and have looked at it every day since we heard the awful news

Image

Theres nothing we can say to make it hurt less, but through tears from so many of us you should understand how we can share the hurt and that he is missed by every single person that met him..and lots that never did ..I'm so glad we did meet him ..and share a holiday in Cornwall with him when you and Ian borrowed the tent to come down and we had that lovely meal , a curry I believe, at The Bogie Inn and watched the sun go down over Crantock beach and then made our way back to Tollgate.

Merly Werly was one of the most special Beardies we ever knew , and we've met a few now ...

Never a day goes by when I don't thank The Big Man upstairs for bringing this breed into our life and as a consequence the most wonderful friends with the most wonderful dogs ..and all of you there fall into the extra special part of that group..

Merlin , no one will forget you , I will treasure meeting you and I know you will be one of the brightest stars up there forever x

Julie, I am so sorry to read your devastating news - I am just so sorry to hear that Merlin is no longer with you. I know it will be a little while before you will be able to accept his passing. He was such a lovey boy and I can still see him in my mind after seeing him at the Club events and down in Cornwall.

Rest in Peace Merlin and run free - I'm sure Simon and Magic will be looking after you now. May your star shine brightly on your Mum and Wizard.

So sorry to read this Julie, you have written a wonderful tribute to your wonderful boy. Like many I am sat with tears and know it was one of the hardest decisions but what smiles and memories he brought you. These beardies are very special and I wish they lasted forever, the memory of them always will.

Big hugs to you and Sandy for being there for you.

You and Merlin have been constantly in our thoughts since you told us and we always go back to the time here when Merlin decided he was having that big piece of cake on the table in the garden. Just made us laugh so much.
Hope to see you here some time soon.
Love
