Remembering my very best friend, Merlin - Steepleton's Dumbledore, on what would have been his 14th birthday.

Merlin (right) with Wizard, on his birthday last year Very Happy
Image

I could never have imagined this time last year that we would have to say goodbye to Merlin 4 months later. Even after 8 months on and the arrival of the gorgeous Sirius and the constant cuddles from Wizard, I still struggle to grasp the fact that he's gone. He took a piece of my heart with him, which will never repair, but he gave us so much during his life; we were truly lucky to have him.

Merlin's sister Skye (owned by Steve and Diane who bred the litter) and also brother Jake will be celebrating their birthday today (but quietly I'm guessing), so wishing you both a very Happy 14th Birthday whatever each of you get up to. xxx

Your tribute brought a tear to my eye Julie, it was very moving. He was a lovely and very special dog.

I still think of being cheated about losing our cat McVittie 4 years ago at 10 years old, especially when our previous one went to 22.

Merlin was such a character. We all have such lovely memories of him when you first came down on the Cornish holiday together and also when we met him for the second time at Hollowtree.

He will be at the bridge and in charge of his birthday cake - woof woof Wink

Love to you all and big hugs xxx

That special part of Merlin will always be with you and forever following your footsteps - doesn't make it any easier though missing the physical presence and love.

I never met Merlin Julie but you told me about him when we met at Goonhavern this year and I could tell by your eyes how much you thought of him.....Bless his heart.

Thinking of you, Julie (sorry I missed this yesterday, but I have been away)

I remember so well Merlin and Jago playing in the sea together at Perranporth - they followed each other everywhere, really bonding. So lovely to see - he was like a big bro to my then fairly young Jago.

Running free, and forever young - happy 14th birthday, Merlin.

Thank you for your lovely words of comfort. I hadn't really thought about the fact that Merlin's birthday was the "first" of those awful "first anniversaries" if that makes sense!

We took Wizard and Sirius to Hengistbury Head a couple of days earlier (couldn't have gone on the actual day Crying or Very sad ) to have fun at Merlin's favourite place and we did indeed have fun.... and the weather was glorious Very Happy

It was odd not to have all the clowning about and present unwrapping that had been so much fun on previous 5th of Octobers; Merlin was a master at unwrapping presents, so hopefully Wizard will teach Sirius the art now Wink Shocked Confused Laughing
