It is with the saddest of hearts I have to tell you all that we had to say goodbye to Harry on Monday.

He was under investigation for an underactive thyroid but unfortunately he also had a mass in his neck that stopped him eating for the last 4 days of his life - he was losing weight fast over the last few weeks and all his strength was gone.

We took the hardest (and in fact the easiest) decision to let him go and join Sadie at Rainbow Bridge. He went to sleep at the vets with me on the floor with him and I was proud to be there with him.

He leaves behind a legacy of fantastic memories - from the goofy nutty dog I was happy to adopt when he was 3 and a half to the fabulous beardie boy he matured into as he got older. A true gentleman of the beardie world who followed me everywhere - always padding quietly behind me.

Thank you Caroline Nicholson for entrusting me with your precious boy - between us we loved him to the moon and back and also many thanks for the chats over the last few days where we have supported each other in our sadness and the smiles at the memories too.

I will, in the next few days, do a proper tribute to Harry with some pics and other memories of him.

In the meantime - thank you to everyone who has emailed, phoned, pm'd and facebooked messages of comfort - I will get back to you all in time - its just so hard at the moment.

Sweet dreams my lovely boy - Harry Shilstone Cornishman

Sue and Mike - as Dawn has already said, there are no words, only tears.

Despite his nickname, under your and Mike's loving care, Harry grew up to be one of the good guys, a prince among Beardies, and will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him.

Run free over the Bridge, Hazbo and go wreak havoc with The Duchess. We'll miss you, but we'll never forget you.

Mike and Sue - big hugs and fondest love to you both.

Having lost our border collie Meg a week last Friday we can really emphasise with your sad loss. There are tears everyday but also pride in giving her a loving home to enjoy her life. Never met Harry but run free and I would love him to meet Meg and remind her of our Lexi who is missing her lots.

We always had a soft spot for you Harry, such a gentle soul with my newly adopted Millie.

For you and your Mum and Dad

Harry Shilstone

For more than six years he was Sadie’s consort
and that in itself says a lot.
It sure took some cunning to handle that lass,
and Harry?, that’s just what he’d got.

He wasn’t the fiercest or bravest of dogs
a little bit henpecked maybe.
but he coped with Sadie, whatever her moods,
and they lived in great harmony.

He had quite a passion for cyclists and tyres,
a fondness for those whirling feet,
but, sad for the cyclists, not there to admire,
he thought they were just there to eat.

At times, when out walking, he’d grumble and growl
to put a young male in his place.
But when it came to it, ‘twas all just hot air,
He did just enough to save face.

Then late in the evening when quiet crept around,
and he knew he’d nothing to lose.
When madam was having a wild Sadie fling,
cool Harry would curl up and snooze.

Sometimes he’d keep station and gaze out to sea
in case something frightening should come.
For he had a family that he must keep safe,
Mike, Sadie and his precious Mum.

And though just a beardie his talents were rare,
he’s famous for blogging away,
when lots of those hoomans in kennels on wheels
all dashed down to Cornwall to stay.

Once there, on the camp site, he greeted his friends
With manners that never did fail.
And when the girl beardies all came round to call
he gave each a wag of his tail.

And I hear that Harry was kindness itself
When young Millie Mop went to stay.
For she stole his kibble, but he didn’t mind,
just turned and walked quietly away.

It pricked Millie’s conscience to see him so kind,
(though stealing she didn’t repent).
“I think”, she said later, with paw on her heart,
“that Hazbo’s a real beardie gent”

Quiet and gentle, as he trotted by
he’d move on with hardly a sound.
So if you hear padding, don’t turn to check up.
It might be that he’s still around.

Sleep well, Harry
xxxxx

Run free Hazbo, Jethro will miss the Hi5s you shared on FBC, not to mention the shared Shilstone genes that meant you could both howl for England if you heard a siren.

Having known Harry for about 9 years, I am totally lost for words.

Our thoughts are with you and Mike and of course Caroline at this time.

Run Free Harry and we know you are in now reunited with The Duchess Sadie, Mummy Chelsea and look after your nephew Bruce.

You will be so greatly missed.

Sue, I am sat here with tears in my eyes, I just don't know what to say except what a lucky lad Harry was to have found you and Mike and have the "companionship" of the late Sadie, Duchess of Kent.

You have lost two wonderful Beardies in such a short space of time, your heart must truly be breaking.

Sending you so much love,

Julie xxx
