Hello everyone,
My hubby Nigel and I have just, last week, received a new family member, Alfie. Apparently he is a bearded collie cross but to me looks totally beardie. He was abandoned in Ireland so his age is a guestimate at 14 months, taking him for check up at our Vet tomorrow, will ask him. I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of their beardie at around this age, so we can compare. He is an absolute sweetie and so docile, starting to feel his feet at home. I will try and post a picture but not very tech minded I'm afraid, so if not here, it means I failed.

Failed sorry!

Well done for taking a rescue.
Are you using photobucket for your photos, or something else, we would love to see a photo of Alfie so if its photobucket several of us on here could help you.

Hi and welcome!

I actually managed to upload a photo to photobucket, which has been causing me "grief" for sometime now Wink Anyway Wizard, on the right of the photo is about 14 months in this picture (July 2010) and Merlin was approaching 10 years.

Image

What a lucky lad your Alfie is, to have been rescued by you. I hope you have many happy years ahead Very Happy

Hello JulieC,

Thank you for the lovely photo, Alfie is not as full coated as Wizard, not sure if he has been clipped or not as he was abandoned in Ireland and as he kept cowering if we raised our hand or arm, even to push my hair behind my ear, Not doing it half as much now though. Going to try this Photobucket. Google here I come lol. Thank you for the lovely comment x

When I read that it makes me so angry.

I am so pleased the you now have the chance to give him a better life.

Very best wishes

Joy and Millie

PS Was hoping to send a photo of Millie at 14 months but my pc is having a tantrum. Will try later.

This is Millie at about 14 months. She may look different as I had trimmed her face. She is 7 in the sig pic.

She too had the lifted arm/ shrink away reaction and she wouldn't come anywhere near me if I was standing in the doorway when I called her in.

Oh dear, that did make me smile; my elderly moments have all rolled into one. I went through the same process of learning how to cope with Photobucket, felt like a ten round marathon. You seem to be making much better progress.

I am sure that one of our tech savy bods will be able to assist. won't embarrass myself by offering help yet, but I do find that it seems to be more cooperative early in the morning.

Look forward to seeing the photos.

Joy

Right, here goes;

This is what one kind member told me to do. I quote '' in photobucket bring the photo up, click on IMG (on the right hand side) and it will come up COPIED, then paste into your posting''
It was the last bit about 'pasting' that got me! I was looking for somewhere on that page that said 'paste'!!! What I discovered is that, first of all, you have got your own 'reply' started/open, and then you simply use the right click of the mouse in the place you want the picture to appear, and choose 'paste' from that list. Hey presto! It appears just there.
I do hope you can follow this very non-techno explanation but it is the best I can do. As the very new owner (2 weeks) on my new puppy, Zebo, I can fully appreciate the excitement you are experiencing at this time. Smile

Any idea as to what Alfie is crossed with, he looks very beardie to me and his pet passport says Old English cross?

Does he definitely look like a cross? What parts aren't beardie, just really interested as I have come to love the breed, read so much about them over the last few days.

May I say thank you to everyone for all the lovely messages, we are very proud of him, our little baby. Sorry Mel that you also fell for him but we had already put our application form in and had a home check when you saw him on the website. I am still looking for you though and will let you know if I find any beardies or beardie X's

Silly question perhaps, but do they do DNA tests on dogs? Would this tell you his cross?

The main thing that stood out for me is the colouring, the black on the ears and the black shading on the coat just doesn't happen with brown beardies. Also, although it's difficult to see as he's sitting, to me the proportions don't look quite right. No way of knowing what the cross is, there may even be more than two breeds involved, I would just enjoy him for what he is and not worry about what is actually in there Laughing

Yes you can get DNA testing for dogs, but in the past it has been shown to not be reliable. Not sure if it's any better now.
