I think there may be a problem of accessing your own photos on PB if you don't pay their ransom. I'm not 100% on that but from posts on another forum I think that may be the case, which means anyone using PB for photo storage will be unable to access their own photos! Twisted Evil

Someone on the PB Facebook page wrote that it was probably illegal for PB to stop the owners of photos from accessing them and he was going to speak to some legal expert or other... Another thing which may not be legal, in my opinion, is the fact that they changed their conditions without any advance warning, which would have given time to the users to take measures to remove their photos from the hosting site. All this may not end too well for PB, I think.

However, it seems to be a growing trend for free sites on the Net to become paying services, especially in the photo department. I used to make really good photo albums to post on my French forum for quite a while, using a site called www.MyAlbum.com, until one day they informed me that from now on I would need to pay a monthly subscription of 4.99 if I wanted to go on using their services. But the difference with what PB is doing right now is that although I haven't paid the requested fee, the albums I have already created are still accessible on their website and I can still share them, which is much fairer and more acceptable.

I still think that the honourable thing to do would be to allow all existing photos to stay visible in third party postings and give a reasonable period of notice before implementing their new Terms and Conditions.

Still grumpy about it ... I am very dislexic ... dyzlksick ... disklecsic ... Wotever! ... and so I often use images instead of words in my posts ... not any more though Evil or Very Mad

Maybe they will see sense and do the right thing ........ oooow did Hell just freeze over? Wink

I totally agree with you Mark, the way PB has done this is not acceptable AT ALL. But I'm sure we can all find another hosting site and keep this forum alive and colourful with our avatars, siggies and photos. Ideas?

I totally agree they should not have done this without warning to allow people to remove their photos and also as mentioned honour existing photo posts. Evil or Very Mad

I had email from them too. All my photos have disappeared in my '5 years on' thread & replaced by warning boxes. Sad Haven't checked any of the others. Not paying you Photobucket so there! Has to be another way surely! Confused

Don't be so gloomy and pessimistic, my dear friend Jude. Here is some hope:

https://www.lifewire.com/free-image-hosting-sites-3486329

I think I will try 2 or 3 of the ones recommended by that website (NOT Photobucket though!!! Laughing ) next time I want to share photos here. Maybe you could shift to one of those too?...

But you could post your magnificent Very Happy Truffe d'Or back again with one of the listed websites, couldn't you?

I've just tried to use the "Postimage" website included in the list above to post another photo of the lake where I was last week. Not bad, eh? It's a bit large but you can resize the photo before you share it (lots of sizes available including avatar). You can also set a date of expiry for your photo in there.

Absolutely true, Maureen. In fact, all image hosting sites have more or less similar terms and conditions. As a matter of fact, if you go to a search website (Google or other) and type "Bearded Collie", you will see hundreds of photos which you can use as you please, most of them coming from image hosting sites!

Smile You are very welcome J ... it is no longer linked to "RansomPics" so it should be free from tyranny.

I read some stuff about PB .. to date they have not made much money despite having a massive clientele ... but now, if only 0.5% of their customers pay the $399, that will generate a revenue of ... $200,000,000 !! I doubt they will change their minds, do you.

Incredible, isn't it? Shocked I understand PB's motives now, but it is no excuse for treating people like they are doing. Evil or Very Mad I see you have changed your avatar, Mark - new hosting site, I suppose!

Very Happy ... Yes Nina, .. a very wise woman on the FBC posted a lovely picture using "Postimage" Wink .. i thought "well, if it's good enough for her, then it is certainly good enough for me", I signed up and copied over a couple of photos. It was very easy and works well. Very Happy ... So, I'm back to posting pictures again, but, this time, i won't be surprised when my new partner gets all "demanding" Rolling Eyes
