Hmm from what you say I'd be inclined to agree about a second opinion, only had the two dogs for experience but neither had the symptoms you mention. |

Holly was given Viscotears liquid gel for dry eye problem. Can be bought over the counter. Think you can search on the rcvs site for opthamologists in your area. |

Okay.... So an update on Hobbes. We went back to see Paul McPherson today as was agreed previously, following swab tests that indicated that there was nothing sight threatening but inconclusive. We agreed to wait until the conjuctivitis re-appeared, which it did and we made the appointment. It seems he has what is known as Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) AKA Dry Eye, which means his tear ducts do not operate at sufficient capacity to keep the surface of the eye sufficiently lubricated. Hence the regular bouts of conjunctivits and the permanent pink third eyelid. So the prognosis is a final course of anti-biotics (Isathal) to clear the current conjunctivitis (three doses a day for five days) then daily application of VitA-POS... for life and, as the conjunctivitis reoccurs (as it is likely to) more lots of anti-biotic. This is because his tear ducts, in the right eye, are not working properly and there are no drugs or procedures to "fix" the problem..... and even with the regular application of VitA-POS, reoccurrences of conjunctivitis are highly likely. Just thought you should know.
Apart from that, he is still our adorable "Hobbes".... tear-away, raggamuffin, four legged heat-rug and destroyer of parcels and plants

Aww, so sorry to hear that Robert. At least you have done the very best by him, and it doesn't sound as if his personality has changed one little bit! Rascals for ever

That's a shame but at least it isn't causing him any distress. I had a look at the VitA-POS and it's an awful lot cheaper than the prescription Optimune that mine were on. |
