So very sorry Sandie, Baxter was such a special boy and the bond between you obvious to all. I have fond memories of our times together. I know you will be reeling right now, like the world has been pulled from under your feet, but hope in time those precious memories will ease your pain. Thinking of you and Doris xxx

Thank you for all the messages, texts and pms, it means a lot. Xx

I donít know where to start. Just a week ago I took him to Bath for his op 😥the last week has been an emotional rollercoaster. As you know there were complications after his op and he had further surgery. The Vet rang me after the op and Bax was fine. I spoke to the night nurse and he was doing good. He had been eating and drinking. I rang again yesterday morning and spoke to the nurse again and all was ok. A little later I spoke to the Vet who wanted to keep him in for the day to make sure he was managing his pain. I went to pick him up about 4 oíclock and he was fine. The young nurse had a soft spot for him and had taken a hairbrush to work and spent most of the day brushing him. Smile. At home he didnít want to get out of the car. It took me about 15 minutes to get him out Sad I feel so guilty maybe I should have given him longer to get out. I left him alone for a few minutes while I got Doz from my mumís, a few doors away. I didnít want to bother him as I know he needed to rest, so I grabbed something to eat and sat on the sofa. He gave a funny cough and I glanced at him and he looked ok.....in hindsight I think this is when he passed 😥 I took my plate out to the kitchen and thought I would feed them both. I called him and as I was walking back in the room, I heard a strange Ďwhistlingí sound and Doris ran out of the room:(. I looked at him and my heart sank as I knew he had gone 😥. I feel so guilty, he went through so much this last week and I havenít spent much time with him because he was in the Vet 😥. He was only home for an hour and he was gone. 😥 he never grumbled and was such a happy boy. X

The last few years have been very difficult for me and the only thing that got me through was the dogs and Bax in particular was my rock ❤️. The house is empty, weíve gone from 5 to just me and Doz. I donít know how Iím going to cope without him. I just want to curl up in a ball . I canít thank him enough for being there for me. If I can find the words, I will pay tribute to him in Ďnever forgottení but Iím struggling at the moment. Thank you all. Xx

Sandie, you mustnt beat yourself up about " not being with him enough "....like you say, he was at the vet being tended to - and that was the totally best place for him to be.
He was with you and Doris in the final instant - he was at Home, with his Person and his Best Friend. The Very Best Place to Be.
Take some time, curl up with Dozzie, cry and grieve but never, ever beat yourself up about his last few weeks. We do our very best for our furries - always - and that is exactly what you did.
xxx

Sandie, I'm so, so, sorry, this is just terrible, your beautiful boy. Can't find the right words. I know how it is to feel bad about all sorts of little things, which seem so big when we're looking after them, because really we just can't bear to lose them and actually they won't even have noticed at all, it's us being silly, so do try not to beat yourself up - that's the last thing Bax wants his Mum to do. Tell him you're sorry and imagine him giving you a kiss. Much love to you and sweet little Doris, and licks from Baxter's niece Lottie xxx

Oh no, I hadn't seen this before now. Here I am feeling so much for you and not being able to hug you or to try and help more than by sending you all my friendly thoughts, dear Sandie. And please do not feel guilty - we almost always do for one reason or another when our loved ones leave, but you can rest assured that you did everything exactly right.

Sandie, take comfort from having been with him at the end, at home in a place he loved and with the person he loved so much. I don't think an animal can ask for more than that.

Sandie, I am so sorry. I don't manage to come on here much these days, so had no idea Bax was even ill. Now he is at the bridge, and I am reeling with shock.

Bax was such a lovely boy, your one in a million, and I know exactly how you are feeling, losing the rock who saw you through difficult times and was always there for you.

I wish I could wrap my arms around you and make all the pain go away, but nothing is that easy. But please believe your rock is still there - maybe not visible, but with you nevertheless. He will always hold that special place in your heart. He knew he was loved and adored, and loved you as much as you loved him. He would want you and Doz to be happy - though I know that seems impossible right now. Cry for him, grieve for him, but most importantly, live for him, as he lived for you.

Run free, beautiful Bax - forever in our hearts xx

Sandie, there was THE most gorgeous sunset here tonight - deep deep pink bands of cloud, interspersed with the lovely rich dimpsey blue ( Devon word for twilight ). I thought, that sunset is for Baxter..and Sandie...and Dozzie. It was absolutely stunning..... xxxxxx

I saw that sunset Judy too and thought the same. Sandie please hold strong and hold on to the love and time you shared with Baxter.

Lost my friend Sue yesterday to cancer in her mid 50ís, she was a special gentle funny person and I like to think she is with Baxter.
