So sorry to hear Dougal isn't responding to treatment as hoped Helen. Given that is the case, I think it's positive that your vets are considering other factors too and I really hope they come up with some answers for you.
Sending loads of love and light for Dougal, and hugs for you going through such a worrying time. Please keep us posted.

Hi Helen

I was reading through your thread, pleased to hear that you seemed to have things under control. It is a blow to hear that there seem to be other problems; I do hope that they soon come up with an answer, such an anxious time for you.

Try to look after yourselves too.

Keeping fingers and paws crossed for a resolution to Dougall's ongoing problems. How did the meeting with the consultant go?

What's the latest news regarding Dougall, Helen? I hope the new change in the treatment is working better. And what was the result of the meeting you had with the vet approx a month ago?...

Sorry it is a month late but happy birthday Dougal x I imagine you have now fully recovered from all the excitement and partying.

Helen, not being on FBC so often now I missed that Dougal had health problems. Hopefully you have all the results back and the meds are kicking in and Dougal is ok.

Well, I think we are now beginning to see the drugs working.

He had more tests to see if there was anything else there stopping the drugs from working as they should. Nothing could really explain it, so a further consultant was called in who confirmed we should up the dose even higher. So, he's now on 100mg (50mg twice a day) - I understand the usual dose is around 60mg daily - and the vet said it may go even higher at the next blood test.🙁

We are however, now having a fairly unbroken night's sleep - he generally needs to go out now around 6am and he seems to be reverting to his previous eating habits, which is good. He also seems to have developed shaking and tremors in his back legs (where his loss of muscle is) and it seems to have triggered his arthritis back again, but these seem to be possible side effects which are mentioned in the drug literature.

The recovery of muscle tone and his fur/hair regrowth will take a lot longer but immediate signs are promising.

Still investigating whether to give any extra supplements specially for Cushings, but once were settled on the correct dosage, we'll think about this as well.

So, onwards and upwards really. 😊

Pleased to hear progress is being made, hope that continues as the vet gets the balance of the drugs sorted.

Never had experience of a dog with Cushings, I know with horses hormone treatment / supplement is sometimes Used to help the symptoms but I have no idea if dogs respond in a similar way.

That's good to read that there a signs of improvement and that you are now able to sleep through, I know we will do anything for them but it does get tough with lack of sleep.
Hoping and praying that he continues to improve and that his Arthritis settles again.
Bless him, he's certainly going through it xxxx
How's Fergus?

Well rather good news then, hurrah! I am really glad to read that things seem to be improving at last! My friend Muriel, who was asking about Dougall recently, asked me to remind you (just in case!) that Vetoryl works best when taken with a meal. But I suppose you know it too!

Big hugs to you, Peter and the lovely boys.

Know from experience how tough is it from lack of sleep but hopefully now you are sleeping better you can think more clearly . Big hugs to you all especially Dougall xx

Keep up the good work Dougall ... it's good to read that you are heading in the right direction.

Mackenzie? .....
Yes? ...
What does "Heading in the right direction" mean? ...
You know, like, going back when you are called ...
Should we do that then?...
Nah... one dog at a time Bro ... Dougall first.

That sounds better Helen, if they can get the medication for the Cushings right first, then perhaps they can move onto sorting out the arthritis. Please give gentle cuddles to him from all us xxx

It will take a while to get the dosage right, every dog (and human) is different but sounds like Dougal is now getting there.

Pleased to read Dougall is making progress. Hydrotherapy could be good for him Helen, itís made all the difference to Roscoe in helping build up his muscles in his rear legs. Xxx
