It’s been just over six months now so I thought you might like to know an update on Dougall’s Cushings.
I am so pleased and amazed to write that Dougall is now IN REMISSION👍
After the kerfuffle of getting the right doseage of vetoryl, the recent blood tests have been very good, in fact vet called them ‘spot on/perfect’. He was due another one last week just after we came back from France, and the vet decided to do a new cheaper type of test he hadn’t had before where he didn’t have to stay in for a morning, and it was just one blood test. Anyway, the result wasn’t what she expected, so he had the old type blood test as well. We had a phone call to say stop all dugs immediately – we were thinking an addisionian crisis😥.
Our vet was at a conference last week and a vet from Dechra was there also and they had a long discussion about Dougall. It turns out that some dogs can respond so well to the vetoryl that they can come off the drugs for a while, and then go back on them when the symptoms start to reappear – that can be as much as 6-7 months. At that time we just pop him back on the vetoryl, no blood tests or anything.
Dougall is looking fabulous – the vet was amazed at his condition, considering what he was like and how difficult it was getting the doseage right for him – his coat is huge and I’m having to thin him out now, and he has the most fabulous tail (just like a fox). The texture of it has changed as well as it doesn’t seem to matt up as much (hope this doesn’t change now he’s not on the drugs 😉). He’s still as grumpy as ever though, that hasn’t changed😉. |

Wow, you've got a fabulous vet. So glad to hear Dougall's doing well and that the drugs aren't for all the time. Keeping my fingers crossed for you with the coat - I had 2 horses with Cushings and the coats were a nightmare (pardon the pun). Keep it up Dougall! |
