Sorry, I know I don't get on here as often as I should, but tonight I really need your prayers please.

Jago was involved in a RTA this evening, we believe he was knocked down and dragged for several hundred yards. We let him out for his night time wee, but he didn't come in when called - he never, ever wanders. I went to look for him on foot, but when I couldn't find him, James took the car out and found him in the road several hundred yards away, bleeding profusely, obviously badly wounded and in severe shock. He put him in the car, drove straight home and we were on our way to the vet when a neighbour saw us totally distraught, so drove us the 7 miles to the vet.

We have been there for the past couple of hours but they have now sent us home, as they will not know any more until morning. They have him on fluids for the shock, and IV antibiotics and are flushing all his wounds to try to avoid infection, but aren't prepared to do any further tests until he is stable. The vet promised she wouldn't leave his side until she felt that he was stable, but we won't in all honestly know more until morning.

It's going to be a very long night. Please pray for him................I don't know what else to do, or say. We love him so much.

Sorry, me again - I don't know who else to turn to at this hour of the night / morning, but you are all family, so sorry, but you get the job!

I have just spoken to the vet again, she is still working on my boy. She assures me he is totally "out of it" dosed to the eyeballs, and has no pain, and doesn't know what is going on. I have to take her word for that, anything else would bring madness.

Her latest guess - and she assures me it IS still guesswork - is that he has suffered severe multiple fractures in 3 limbs, and several in his feet. He also has multiple open wounds which are full of grit and dirt, from being dragged, which they are attempting to flush out. When we took him in he was so totally covered in blood, we couldn't actually see where it was coming from, but she said it was all from his face and legs, although she cannot as yet rule out internal injuries - that will be something to address in the morning.

On the plus side, his colour and breathing are ok so far, so I'm hanging on to that, but she warned me that, even if he has not sustained internal injuries, his leg / feet injuries alone mean we have a very long road ahead of us.

Why or why did I just let him out in the garden instead of taking him out on lead????? Why oh why did I believe that, just because he has never wandered in the past, he would never wander in the future? Why did I trust that, just because he had never chased a badger or fox (of which we have many) in the past, he would never be tempted to do so? i just cannot get the sight of his bloodied face and body, and the pain in his gentle, trusting eyes, out of my mind. Sorry, I know i am sounding desperate, but that is how I feel - I just wish they had let me stay with him.

Oh CJ I cannot imagine what you are going through. Blaming ourselves is always an option but it wonít help. I am in tears but that wonít help you either but know that we are all feeling this with you.
Stay positive... he knows you love him and let the vets do their job, it is everyday stuff to them if not to us. Of course prayers are being said for him and you. So sorry you are going through this and I hope we find out who is responsible.... we wait with you. Much love xxxxx

Only just seen this CJ - everyone's worst nightmare, and I am so sorry to read what has happened to your Jago. Will be thinking of you all and sending best wishes that it isn't as bad as you think it is at this present time, and that your Jago will be on the road to recovery very soon. Please don't beat yourself up - these things happen out of the blue, and none of us can forsee every possible scenario - everyone knows how much you love Jago and we are all wishing him well. Take care CJ. X

Thank you everyone, and thank you Gilly for your caring phone call. Sorry that I was almost incoherent - just finding it all really difficult to talk about. Easier to write.

Spoke with vet nurse every 2 hours during the night. She sat with my boy all night, "loving and monitoring"him - her words. Have spoken to vet twice this morning and am waiting for a further call soon. He was still not stable enough for the xrays and scans, certainly not strong enough to withstand an anasthetic. But she was hoping to do both later today. She is now thinking ruptured bladder as his potassium has fallen through the floor, and his heart rate dropped. So potassium is being added to his drip. If they manage to get xrays of the fractures today, they have lined up an orthopaedic specialist to advise on the way forward on that front. He is such a poorly boy, James and I are just pacing and waiting. Can't eat, can't sleep, can't do anything but cry atm and that's not helping anyone. Just keep seeing his poor, broken, bloodied body and the pain in his gentle, trusting eyes. We've let him down so badly.

Thank you all for your prayers and white light, sorry for rambling, but trying to keep occupied.
