I can't believe this is happening, as it was so sudden! Foxie has been bitten by a tick which was carrying that terrible illness called piroplasmosis. On Tuesday evening she wasn't very hungry, left half her dinner untouched and didn't really look too well. On Wednesday morning I found her completely prostrated, she was panting slightly and of course didn't want to eat at all. I took her temperature: 40.6į!!!! I immediately recognized some of the symptoms of piroplasmosis and called my vet. Unfortunately the secretary said that it was totally impossible to come until 2.00 pm that afternoon. I spent the morning jumping up and down until at last it was time to go to the clinic. My vet recognized all the symptoms (Foxie also had pale gums, and when we took her for a wee outside, it was dark orange!). The appropriate blood test was of course carried out and the diagnosis was confirmed. Crying or Very sad Her platelets and red blood cells had plummeted and her urea rate was much in excess of the maximum rate... Foxie was given an injection, I was allowed to take her back home but had to go back yesterday morning for new blood tests to see if the injection had been sufficient. Unfortunately, the new tests showed that it hadn't, so she had to have a 2nd one and she was put on a drip to help the kidneys eliminate the toxins and the urea. This morning, a new blood test showed that, hurrah, at long last her the number of platelets and red blood cells was going up again. However, the urea was still far too high (1.31 instead of .60 which is the maximum normal rate). So... back on a drip for the whole day and until tomorrow morning. My vet says that she is now safe regarding the piroplasmosi but if the urea rate doesn't go down soon she may have some sequels (chronic kidney failure). I know what it's like as my Siamese had it, and my previous cat Zoe had it too, and I just can't imagine going through those same difficult times again... My poor Foxie... Ticks are really dangerous and awful creatures. In France, about 25% of them carry piroplasmosis (for dogs and horses, mainly) and Lyme's disease for human beings - I know quite afew people who have had it. Please send as many positive thoughts and as much white light as possible to Foxie, she must be ok tomorrow and not have to live with kidney failure... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Many thanks all of you!

You beautiful people, you can't imagine (or maybe you can!) what great comfort it is to read all your lovely, friendly messages this morning. Thank you so much everyone!

I have to wait until 10.00 this morning to call the clinic and see what happens next - either Foxie's blood test results are fine and I can take her back home or she will have to stay on a drip for a furher 24 hours. I'm trying to keep as busy as I can until I can call!

Wellll... GOOD NEWS!!!! ! I am absolutely certain that all your positive thoughts and white light have helped Foxie to win the battle. We have just come back home, she had the "green light" from the vet as her blood tests this morning showed a urea rate of .66, and it should get even better very shortly. That means of course that the kidneys are back to their normal functioning condition. I am sooooo relieved! A final check-up is programmed for next Thursday, and in the meantime I must make sure Foxie eats well and behaves normally. A huge THANK YOU to all of you for your support!!!
