Hope Nix doesn’t mind me putting this up for those not on FB.
Fripp has been very unwell for the last week and In the vets.
He has had pus drained from his kidney and been very poorly. They thought they had got on top of the problem but now devastatingly for Nix when they scanned him they discovered all was not well.
Today he is In surgery.
THis from Nix , Fripp Update:
This is not the news I wanted to post to you all, I am so sorry but there have been complications 😪
When they did the ultrasound they found 2 stones were blocking the flow of urine and causing more infection. I hope I’m remembering this right. I have to take him now to North Downs Referrals and I’m waiting for them to call me.
So much to take in but I think there are two options neither of them very good. One is to put a stent in but as a foreign body it could cause its own problems. The other would be to remove the bad kidney but they don’t think the other one would sustain him. I will know more when I have spoken to North Downs Referrals.
I know how upset you will all be, I’m sorry it’s not the news we were all expecting...I am distraught.
I’m sorry I can’t say any more 😪 xxx
Thinking of you Nix and Fripp, hope the surgery is successful.

Another Fripp Update 1.30
NIx has asked me to post an update on Fripp. He is having an ultrasound and then she will decide with the vets the best route to go. He could be at the vets for a week depending on what they decide to do but all procedures come with a risk so she is waiting for results to come in.
She particularly wanted me to thank you all for your support which she is very conscious of.
Keep sending love his way and thank you for all your lovely comments and good wishes. X |

UPDATE TUESDAY EVENING
Fripp is out of surgery!!!
“So...when the surgical team went in they got a surprise. In the urethra there was a lump/swelling that they didn’t see on the ultrasound. The surgeon felt it wasn’t a tumour but was some sort of inflammation so he decided to cut it out. When he removed it the massive amount of pus that had collected in the renal pelvis just drained right out. So the surgeon felt that this ‘lump’ could have been the problem all along and if they can establish drainage then the remaining stone might flush through. They didn’t put a stent in and they are going to see if this has done the trick whilst checking his kidney values. He’s awake and wondering what the heck is going on. He’s a bit cold but they are taking care of him. It was a very long surgery. Fiona vet will call in the morning and depending on how he is I might be able to go and see him. It’s basically now a watch and wait xxx”

Wednesday Morning Fripp Update
I have just spoken with Fripp’s vet and so far so good. He is quiet but he had a busy day yesterday with a very long surgery so that’s expected. The prognosis is still guarded but his kidney toxins have come down from 263 to 191 which is really good. He is having an ultrasound this morning and we really need your prayers that the removal of the blockage has worked and his drainage is still established. Please excuse the capitals but... I AM GOING TO VISIT HIM AT 1.30 TODAY 😂😂😂 |

nix just posted this
Fripp Update Thursday Morning
I am so sorry that I don’t have better news. When I arrived this morning I could see that Fripp wasn’t as well as yesterday. He didn’t want any food but he did come out for a little walk in the hospital garden. After about ten minutes I saw Fiona the vet and the surgeon walking towards us and I knew instantly that something was wrong.
The bottom line is that Fripp’s kidney toxins have gone up again and the renal pelvis that had drained has enlarged again. At the moment this looks like the removal of the initial blockage hasn’t done the trick 😪
So we now are back to square one and have three options again. Excuse layperson language but option one, not the favourite is to put some sort of bypass in but that would mean he would have to keep returning to get it flushed through. Second is back to the stent. This will be tricky because his urethra has twists and turns in it now so makes that a difficult procedure. Third option is to remove the kidney which will completely get rid of all the problems but because his other kidney is failing, it seems it would reduce his life span to maybe only another six months 😪
We have all decided to give it another 24 hours just in case everything starts working again and if not, tomorrow Fripp will go back into surgery. Once they’ve had a good look round we will make the decision of which route to take.
The better news is that Fripp did perk up after they’d gone and he and I spent a lovely hour or so together in the garden, him asleep with his Meerkat and me trying to hold it together.
We haven’t given up yet... 😪😘😘😘

Latest from nix
Fripp Update Thursday Evening
Vet just called to say Fripp seems a little cheerier and he’s eaten 100gms chicken and 100gms ham 🙂 He will have his blood tested for toxin levels at 9am and his ultrasound at 10am. I’m desperately hoping he’s turned things around but if not they will open him up and we shall make our decision then.😘 |
