Hi! I know all dogs are different in their food preferences but I was wondering are there any types of snacks your beardie loves (other then meat!). Mine adores peanut butter and sometimes a bit of apple but I havenít tried much else.

This would be as a treat for when I have to leave her alone in the house!

Many Thanks! <3

We give "bedtime" treats of James Wellbeloved grain free Cracker Jacks ... Mackenzie doesn't cope with wheat or chicken very well and the lamb or turkey crackerjacks are free from both. .. They are just little bone shaped biscuits and they love them.

Peanut butter is a good one too, especially if it's in a kong type toy where they have to work at getting the treat out. I am sure you are aware, but it would be remiss of me if i didn't mention that some peanut butters have the sweetener Xylitol in them. This can be extremely toxic to dogs, even lethal. Check the ingredients label.

M .. Very Happy

Thanks Iíve never heard of Xylitol but Iím glad I do now. Luckily Iíve been feeding her whole earth which has no added sugars. Only the natural ones.

Very Happy ... Sounds yummy ... I'm partial to a bit of Peanut butter myself.
Xylitol is sort of "natural" in as much as it's a sugar alcohol derived, synthesised, from plants .. (not knocked up in a chemical lab) .. so, even in Natural products it's worth keeping an eye out for it. Smile

My honorary Beardies love Peanut butter/buckwheat flour/coconut flour biscuits that I make. These are their bed-time treat. Buckwheat isn't a wheat, but derived from Rhubarb, it is a fruit flour. I use Meridian peanut butter (no added anything)
They also have beef & garlic sausage treats for training Smile

Here nothing can beat cheese as treats for Foxie and Miss You (after all, they are French dogs!). Which also means I can hide tablets in a nice smelly piece of goat's cheese when they have to take some medicine, 100% success! Miss You also loves apples and carrots.

Ours love carrot, the ones they steal from the horses are the best. At night they have a digestive or rich tea biscuit

Our darling Bentley,(no longer with us Crying or Very sad) was addicted to sausages!

I'd always cook an extra one for him. He was always such a good boy.

Smile

They all sound great! I will have to try a few, especially carrots because they seem the healthiest ! But a little cube of smelly cheese to hide a tablet is excellent!

And an occasional sausage or for good measure !;)

Yes well we didn't have them very often but when we did he'd smell them a mile away!
Carrots too, they love those.
Bentley dug up my carrot patch one day! Got home from work and the drive way was covered in bits of greenery. Turned out to be carrot tops!!! He'd dug them up and eaten the carrots! Shocked

BUT he was a good boy......Honestly. Smile

My late Betsy adored - as in she would do anything ie the dishes, polishing the brasses, actually...ACTUALLY come when called - Davies Puffed Jerky treats. They are rather foul-smelling but once I had discovered them, they were the only thing she would come back for.....

She also adored any kind of raw veg and would sit next to me as I was preparing supper, gently touching my knee with her nose from time to time, in case a mushroom or bit of brokkly fell from the heavens....she would drool if I peeled an orange....

Apropos of nothing, I had a black half Siamese who adored black olives.....

home made liver treats (ox liver, garlic, egg and whole meal flour liquidized and then slow baked and cut into squares.) I left one batch to cool before portioning and came in to find all the edges had been nibbled. They can be frozen so very handy. The mixture should be the consistency of a chocolate brownie but do not mistake one for the other. I found the garlic tends to discourage ticks and fleas as well

Millie loves carrots - but only when she can steal them from the Tracy and Annette's horse's supply.
