Virus Blues

Iím drowning in self pity sitting here in my room
Everything surrounds me in a state of gloom
All I see and hear aboutís impending doom
I got the virus blues

Sat at my computer trying to book a delivery slot
Each website that I click upon just tells me that theyíre hot
My food supply is running out I havenít got a lot
I got the virus blues

Iím told that Iím a Chosen One - immune systemís at risk
Something to do with meds Iím on, the NHS insist
So isolation is advised - its pointless to resist
I got the virus blues

Own company donít bother me, I like being by myself
With dog and cats for company Iím in the best of health
But how Iíd like to shop in store selecting from the shelf
I got the virus blues

So Sainsburys; Tesco; Iceland; Waitrose; please bear me in mind
A single slot is all I want, that little space to find
It ainít no fun being Vulnerable so please donít be unkind
I got the virus blues.

Aw thanks Mark, you've made my day - although since I penned that I actually managed to get a Sainsburys slot for Saturday Cool Cool. Are you a Dire Straits fan - from Brothers in Arms the tune for One World came to mind and that's what inspired my effort Wink

Embarassed I nearly didn't post this, thought it might be too facetious given the seriousness of it all.

Yep, it really is serious... When I was working I was the very proud manager of a large team of people who supported adults and children with disabilities or life limiting conditions in the community. We were up against cost cutting, budget capping, training restricting and constant neglect by local and national Government .. We kept going by working together, supporting each other, valuing every team member's contribution, maxing out on minimal resources and allowing ourselves to have a laugh from time to time .. and oh how we laughed.. That team is still out there and their work is essential to the well being of hundreds of people in this area and I know that they continue to meet the challenge with good humour. In my opinion, having a giggle is a very important aid to coping with adversity .. keep calm and carry on. Laughing

I couldn't agree more! I think keeping our good sense of humour and posting silly jokes (the social media are full of them at the moment, some being really laugh-out-loud funny!) is essential - vital, I would say, to keep our sanity. Please do go on posting songs, poems and jokes, as well as beautiful photos of your environment - to me, the beauty of nature is also a must, in this strange period.

We are assured that our pride and joy will arrive in a one hour time slot! We are so excited! It is to be a multiple delivery, so we are scrambling to make sure that our small house will have enough room for these welcome new arrivals...all hail T(esco) Very Happy

Nina - it is very hard, at the moment, to get a home delivery slot from the supermarkets - I live in a small village with limited shops, the nearest supermarket is about 12 miles away.

It isnt in the spirit of the guidelines to drive to a supermarket when you have shops within walking distance.... however, our shops here are small and it is almost impossible to keep a safe distance from other shoppers and staff. We do shop in the village when we cant get a delivery from the supermarket but would rather keep contact with others at a minimum, where possible.

The supermarkets are - rightly - concentrating on delivering to the most vulnerable, so that when someone actually gets a home delivery slot, it is A Big Deal Very Happy

So...it feels as if one is giving birth when a delivery of groceries arrive! Very Happy
