Please my dear friends... Please send as much white light as you can to Miss You my poor honorary Beardie, my beloved Lowchen, who is right now at the clinic with a drip intended to boost her failed kidneys... For the last few days she had been toying with her food, which was not at all like her, and after trying various things like changing the brand of her tins without success, I decided to take her to the vet's today. After describing the symptoms in addition to not eating normally, like foul breath and drinking more than usual, the vet thought of a kidney problem and did a blood test. The result was catastrophic, with a urea rate so high that the machine couldn't even measure it accurately So there she is with a drip for 48 hours, after which she will have a new blood test. If the urea rate has come down sufficiently, she will be allowed to come back home, with a specific diet and a treatment. If not, another drip and 48 hours at the clinic will be necessary. I can't believe this is happening... I've lost 3 cats in the past due to the same problem, it's like a recurring nightmare. I'm trying not to be too pessimistic but experience tells me this is not a good (at least long-term) prospect... It broke my heart to leave my little Miss there on her own...
I am supposed to call the vet tomorrow at 2 p.m. to see how Miss You has been reacting to the drip after 24 hours, and also they will have made some further tests to determine the cause of this kidney problem. |

Thank you so much for your comments, you can't imagine how comforting it is to read them.
I called the vet earlier this afternoon as agreed, and she was rather happy to see how Miss You has reacted to the drip so far. This morning she was actually HUNGRY!!! And she was very lively and eager to be taken for a short walk on the lawn surrounding the clinic. So the vet is quite hopeful. Of course we have to wait until tomorrow to check the urea level with a new blood test (today is too early to carry out one), and Miss You will also have an echography of the kidneys and liver, tonight or tomorrow morning. If the blood test results are good (i.e. urea and creatinine levels have gone down significantly), she will come back home, with a treatment and special dog food. My fingers are still crossed until tomorrow, even if I feel quite relieved by the latest news. |

More white light winging its way to Miss You. Remind me, Nina, how old is she? (Sorry, my memory is ageing ahead of the rest of me at times )
Hugs to you and the furry ones.
