For all Chetsers friends that are not on Face Book

Breaksea Jailhouserock…….aka CHESTER Born 02 02 2009
Chester was meant to come and live with us. When we went to Gill’s to see the litter this one little boy came and sat on Ron’s knee and didn’t want to leave him……..we knew that this litter all had homes to go to , but Gill said we could have a puppy from the next litter
A couple of weeks later we got a call from Gill to say that the sale of one of the puppies had fallen through and we could have him if we wanted him, it was the little boy that took a fancy to Ron.
As we had a little holiday books (a 5 day trip to the Isle of Skye, courtesy of Ron’s company as part of his retirement gift) Gill said she would keep him for us. So at 101/2 weeks old….toilet trained and knowing his name Chester came to live with us
He was a happy, mischievous naughty little rascal, stealing everything that wasn’t nailed down…..tea towels, cushions , shoes all ended up at the gate……………the gates that had to be replaced because he soon learnt that he could jump them from a standing leap….to join his daddy who had gone to the village without him. At first we thought the gates were not closing properly until I saw him jumping them to run after Ron.
Over the next 2 years we had lovely outings , I joined the original FBC and made some great friends. We went to Cornwall on holiday with them and Chester had fun…….we also went to South Wales a couple of times and to Yorkshire…….on these holidays he was nicknames Teflon, because he never got dirty…..he hated the water and mud so nothing stuck to him on walks.
But at the end of Oct 2011, on a Saturday morning as Ron was playing with Chester he shouted me to look at him………every bit of skin you could see was yellow. ..… He was rushed to the vets and put on a drip straight away, they didn’t know what was wrong with him but thought that his kidneys had failed
After scanning him, they saw a large mass and told us not to hold much hope, but they would open him up and look. During the operation we got a call to say that they found his bile duct was blocked solid, the bile was like a rock and completely filled it. They had removed the bile and were going to put a plastic tube in the duct to help the bile to pass through but it was so thick
He was there for 2 weeks while they tried to thin the bile he produced……..one day we got a call asking us to bring his favourite toy in because he was depressed, we had been visiting him but he got so excited they were worried that he would pull his drips out
We took monkey in , and were asked to feed him by hand and stay until he fell asleep……..his nurse rang us the next morning to say he had brought tear to her eyes because each time she had checked on him he was lying upside down with his head on monkey fast asleep. After this we used to visit him twice aday and take him for walks round the carpark holding his drip…..he then came home.
He was not as active as most beardies after this but he still loved life and we adored him as he was......he had a few flare ups over the years, but with our wonderful vet Alan he always pulled through
Sadly since November his medication hasn't been working as well as it should, but Chester still enjoyed life . He couldn't go on long walks anymore but still loved to play with his squeaky toys and stuffed toys, mainly his monkeys
He was never really a food fan, but this last month he has eaten next to nothing, I was hand feeding him daily and he started being sick more often...…...these past 10 days he wasn't Chester anymore, didn't even want his monkey and would just have a little walk …….lockdown didn't help we couldn't get him to his favourite walks and his fan club of children going to school didn’t pass by anymore
We were told his kidneys were failing fast.....during Wednesday night he was so so sick , and we had to make the hardest decision ever
He will be cremated with his favourite monkey , Monkey (the others have different names)
